The Lowdown - UK’s first contraceptive review site

We aided The Lowdown by completely restructuring their existing platform. They provide several services, including online pill ordering, scheduling doctor appointments, and reviewing contraceptive products. We have successfully revamped the current functionalities and introduced new features like contraception recommendations. Another enhancement on The Lowdown website is the ability for users to create their own accounts. This allows users to keep all their reviews, orders, and appointments centralized. Additionally, users can now interact with one another and pose questions about their experiences with specific contraceptive methods. Our initial step involved analyzing the existing software to determine the best path for development. The primary objective was to enhance the current features and incorporate new ones without disrupting the experience for existing users.

Hero - The real way to shop virtually

We collaborated with Hero's development team to pinpoint ways to enhance their processes and practices. Hero's development team consists of cross-functional groups, and one of our objectives was to empower each team to take responsibility for specific parts of the platform. Additionally, we helped them build trust in the codebase, allowing for frequent updates to production. To facilitate this, we transitioned from a monolithic architecture to a microservices approach. Subsequently, we established CI/CD pipelines and testing methods. We partnered with Hero's engineers to design and implement microservices using TypeScript, Node.js, and the Koa framework. We also created a template that streamlined the development of new services, accelerating the development timeline and easing the onboarding process for new developers. Together, we chose Jest for unit testing to ensure that every new feature aligns with its design and functions correctly. The combination of unit tests and code reviews helped the development teams uphold high coding standards, enhancing both the readability and maintainability of the code without sacrificing quality. To reach additional retailers, Hero aimed to connect with Shopify, an e-commerce platform. A key requirement was to develop an app that integrates their platform with Shopify’s retailers. We opted for React, a JavaScript library for building user interfaces through components, and utilized Polaris, Shopify’s React component library, to maintain an attractive and user-friendly interface consistent with Shopify's app design. Our carefully crafted code emphasized readability and scalability, along with a straightforward user experience, allowing users to access Hero’s dashboard, contact support, and customize Hero’s plugin on Shopify.

Myster - renovate worry-free

We worked together with Myster's internal development team and outside consultants to develop a new application that integrates React with the e-commerce platform Shopify. The store needed an app that would let users customize their shopping cart, which is a standard feature of Shopify. It should only display products based on user information provided by Myster’s home-building partners, allowing users to add services related to their selected products and determine the quantities of supplies needed for each room individually. On our backend, we managed building data that would be shown to customers, linked to the Shopify backend through the customer’s Shopify ID. On the frontend, we included additional functionality that could not be implemented directly on Shopify. We first created an admin page that enabled Myster employees to manage user access to the site. We also developed registration and callback pages for both new customers and existing ones looking to make updates. After being granted access, customers could select products for each room in their new home, organized by floor, all within a modern and responsive user interface. The project evolved from its original concept of a Shopify store into a React application seamlessly connected with Myster’s backend. In summary, this demonstrates that a combination of the right technologies can facilitate a wide range of possibilities.
