They had to decide whether to switch to a serverless model, set up a new physical server, relocate existing servers, or temporarily continue operations at their former location. Minimizing disruptions to daily activities during the transition was essential, along with managing the costs and risks tied to each option. Additionally, the organization sought to migrate to Azure to take advantage of cloud benefits and prepare their IT for the future, making the decision process even more complex. **Solution Design:** We approached the task strategically, advocating for a phased migration to Azure while carefully considering cost, risk, and time to effectively address the client's requirements. Our solution included transitioning the organization to a serverless model by moving essential virtual machines (VMs) to Azure. We established a strong new Azure infrastructure, encompassing storage accounts, network configurations, and security setups to ensure a smooth transition. Domain controllers, virtual desktops, and critical applications were migrated to Azure with a continuous focus on data backup, system testing, and user support throughout the process. This ensured minimal disruption and allowed the organization to fully utilize Azure's benefits, laying the groundwork for a future-proof IT environment. The project concluded with updated IT documentation, the decommissioning of old servers, and the implementation of Azure VM reservations. **Our Impact:** Our method of migrating the non-profit to Azure resulted in significant advantages. The Challenge: For a nonprofit organization with more than 300 members delivering vital welfare services throughout British Columbia, effective communication and teamwork were essential. Conducting regular strategic meetings to align with the client’s objectives. Holding Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs) to monitor progress, identify vulnerabilities, and discuss potential enhancements. This collaborative strategy ensured that technology decisions were made proactively and tailored to the client's long-term goals.
