**BACKGROUND** Provide an overview of your business and its activities. I am employed at Flyline Ventures, a venture capital fund. **OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE** What issue were you seeking to resolve with Spectacle Strategy? We engaged Spectacle Strategy to evaluate the market potential for a prospective startup opportunity. **SOLUTION** What was the extent of their involvement? Our goal was to introduce a new competitor in a sizable industry, and we needed to understand how willing potential customers would be to embrace a new process in a well-established market. Spectacle Strategy conducted a market research study for us, utilizing a general population survey. Their team examined crucial aspects such as category connection, retail connection, brand connection, concept appeal, and adoption obstacles. What was the team structure? We collaborated with three individuals, with Michael (CEO and Founder of Spectacle Strategy) being our primary contact. How did you establish a partnership with Spectacle Strategy? I was referred to their team by a former colleague of Michael's. The connecting group was much larger, but I was specifically looking for a smaller team for a relatively modest study. Spectacle Strategy, being a small, new firm with the expertise of a larger organization, made them an ideal choice for this project. **How much have you invested with them?** We invested approximately $25,000. **What is the status of this collaboration?** Our partnership lasted from October 2017 to February 2018. **RESULTS & FEEDBACK** What evidence can you provide that demonstrates the effectiveness of the collaboration? Spectacle Strategy produced a high-quality report on schedule and at a commendable value. Their professionalism, comprehensive approach, and meticulous attention to detail greatly surpassed my expectations. **How did Spectacle Strategy perform from a project management perspective?** The team consistently kept me informed about progress, promptly addressed any inquiries, and met our timing expectations. **What did you find most impressive about them?** I had not previously worked with a marketing research vendor like Spectacle Strategy, but the caliber of their work truly speaks for itself. **Are there any areas for improvement?** No, we were very pleased with their results. **Any advice for potential clients?** Give them an opportunity. Since its establishment in 2005, VMG Partners has become a leading investment fund for innovative consumer packaged goods (CPG) brands, earning a strong reputation for successful exits with well-known names like Nature's Bakery, KIND, Drunk Elephant, and Sun Bum. However, with the inauguration of a $250 million technology-focused fund and ongoing advancements in their diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives, it became apparent that VMG needed to enhance its narrative, both in words and visuals, to better convey their purpose. To achieve this, Spectacle identified four essential brand pillars that reflected VMG's distinctive investing and mentoring philosophy. They developed a new logo and visual identity symbolizing growth, progress, and the transformative "delta" that entrepreneurs must embrace when securing capital to advance their businesses. The design predominantly uses black and white to ensure a timeless and adaptable aesthetic for both tech and consumer markets, while dynamic arrow graphics can be employed in patterns and animations. The revamped VMG website and visual identity were launched in March 2023, aligning with the year's major trade show in the natural products sector, ExpoWest. Feedback from the brand's network has been overwhelmingly positive.

After completing their studies at MIT and Carnegie Mellon, the fitness enthusiasts behind DeltaTrainer aimed to create the most comprehensive tracking and analytics tool for high-intensity weightlifting. However, following an initial period of rapid growth, users expressed a need for a different kind of platform—one that would make fitness genuinely accessible to everyone. Through a series of detailed interviews with DeltaTrainer users, we discovered that the fitness industry had overlooked a significant group of individuals: those seeking a solution that enables them to learn and exercise in their own way and settings. Armed with this insight, Spectacle redirected the brand to emphasize approachability, empathy, and lifelong fitness—rather than just aesthetics. We rebranded the company as CoPilot and focused its mission on providing long-term fitness opportunities to those who previously lacked access.

Regard, previously known as HealthTensor, is a startup that has been in operation for five years, created in response to a significant crisis in healthcare characterized by overwhelming administrative tasks and limited resources that hinder the system's effectiveness. This situation diverts valuable resources away from patient care and contributes to clinical burnout among providers. By leveraging AI technology, Regard aims to revolutionize medical diagnoses, allowing physicians to devote more time to their core strengths: critical thinking and patient engagement. To refine Regard’s strategy, visual branding, and messaging, the founders collaborated with Spectacle, aiming to simplify their narrative to resonate with healthcare providers, investors, and the general public. The refreshed brand identity not only sought to differentiate itself from the uniformity prevalent in healthcare but also aimed to align with the founders' ambitious goal of developing technology that enhances and progresses medical practice. The brand strategy addressed a deeper concern for physicians, transitioning their perception from feeling limited by their tools to feeling empowered by them. The revised brand identity emphasizes respect for healthcare providers' expertise and the credibility that Regard holds in the industry, resulting in a brand that connects as a trusted peer with its audience. The rebranding initiative has impacted every facet of the company, including a revamped narrative and the complete relaunch of their website, coinciding with the announcement of closing a $15 million Series A funding round in June 2022.
