Improving UX for an outdated Recruitment Platform

Blackwood Group

Blackwood specializes in staffing for large corporations. They developed an internal application tailored to manage communications with candidates and companies effectively. However, over time, the application became outdated and increasingly difficult to navigate as new features were added. They engaged us to develop a new User Experience. Our task was to assist in reconstructing their old WinForms data management application that their team utilized internally, enhancing the User Experience through a comprehensive redesign. We supported Blackwood in completing this project in three phases.

Internal Apps for Visual Comfort Customers & Staff

Visual Comfort

We collaborated with Visual Comfort (previously known as Circa Lighting) to refresh their interactive product demonstrations, gradually enhancing the retail application to improve customer experiences. This initiative represents a long-term commitment from both teams as we continue to refine based on feedback. Visual Comfort relies on our expertise in developing headless websites focused on user experience to provide their customers with a truly distinctive shopping journey. **Outdated Software** Visual Comfort’s retail application had become outdated and offered minimal long-term support. Simple modifications could take days due to their repercussions or because they were hidden within complex, interlinked code. We began by thoroughly understanding the existing code to better support the Visual Comfort team over time. **Code Revitalization** After our collaboration, we realized that the old system hindered or delayed many new development initiatives. Rather than settling for minor improvements, we took the initiative to completely rewrite the old Vue application using Nuxt 3. By creating a new application with headless technologies, we removed the accumulated technical debt and enhanced our ability to introduce new features and scale effectively in the future. **Data-Driven Design** Data is central to Visual Comfort's products, so we applied this data-centric approach to their retail application. By implementing interaction tracking, we gained insights into how customers engaged with in-store displays, enabling us to iteratively enhance designs by monitoring usage, identifying issues, and testing solutions. **Innovative Experiences** Our latest project focuses on optimizing staff workflows. We have developed internal software that streamlines the experience for retail staff when assisting customers. This new software addresses actual issues faced by staff, aiming to minimize input errors and save valuable time during customer interactions, whether in-store or over the phone.

Pigeon Loans Website & App Redesign

Pigeon Loans

From the outset of Skyward, we have collaborated with Pigeon Loans. As a small startup with limited resources, Pigeon Loans faced challenges in establishing a cohesive brand identity and delivering an excellent user experience on their website and app. Here's how we contributed: User Experience Design, Brand Consistency, and Jamstack Development. **Phase 1: Marketing Site** The initial marketing site was missing essential information and was difficult to navigate. Although Pigeon Loans had the potential for an outstanding product, this was not reflected in its marketing site. We identified several core objectives to enhance it: - The site needed to be much simpler for developers and content editors to update. - It needed improved Google rankings (better SEO). - The design required enhancements while still maintaining the existing branding. To meet these goals, we devised a new design aimed at highlighting the advantages of using Pigeon Loans, particularly in building brand trust. **Phase 2: Application** As the revamped marketing site began attracting numerous new customers, the application felt outdated and required a refresh. Our objectives for the application included: - Carrying the branding from the marketing site into the application. - Enhancing the overall user experience. - Optimizing the code for easier long-term maintenance. To accomplish these aims, we analyzed the current user experience of the application, made optimizations, improved the design, and rebuilt a significant portion of the application to enhance performance, scalability, and reusability.
