This case study explores the strategic problem-solving capabilities of SHAKO in collaboration with their client, Dynamic Wood Windows & Doors. Together, they created a custom machine that effectively addressed a critical bottleneck in the client's operations, leading to a remarkable 14-fold increase in throughput. Dynamic has been specializing in custom windows and doors for over three decades, showcasing their expertise in the field. They required an automation solution specifically designed for their unique process. SHAKO worked closely with the client to pinpoint the biggest obstacle in their manufacturing workflow—the labor-intensive process of gluing and clamping veneers onto solid wood cores. This task necessitated two workers spending around 30 minutes to manually set up clamps for 10 boards. A standard order could include 40 or more doors and windows, requiring the assembly of hundreds of layered boards weekly. SHAKO developed and implemented a machine that greatly optimized this procedure, allowing a single operator to position the boards and apply clamping pressure with a simple switch. As a result, the time required per board was reduced from 3 minutes with two operators to just 25 seconds, significantly enhancing efficiency and productivity—more than a 14-fold improvement in labor hours! Through this initiative, SHAKO not only resolved the operational bottleneck but also fostered greater efficiency and productivity by allowing the second operator to focus on other tasks, highlighting their commitment to providing impactful engineering solutions.
