NPS Medicinewise
**Project Overview**
NPS offers free, independent, and evidence-based information on medications, health conditions, and medical tests for both health professionals and the public. Over 7 million Australians are familiar with NPS MedicineWise, and the website received 13 million visits during the 2016-17 financial year. In 2015, Red Ant was brought on board by NPS as part of their broader digital transformation efforts. Our objective was to automate the data ingestion process, enabling scalability and reducing the turnaround time for content updates from days to mere minutes. The NPS website depends on various data sources, including the Australian Prescriber journal, the Medicine Finder, and MedicineInsight data. The integrity of the entire NPS system hinges on accurate data. Our challenge was to devise a method to gather, index, and contextualize this information, so that it appears as search results on the site. A robust content management system (CMS) can facilitate some aspects of this, while an effective workflow can enhance data quality. We developed a system capable of efficiently ingesting large volumes of complex medical data and displaying it across various locations for different types of users. We focused on creating a user-friendly and highly accessible website experience, equipped with diverse tools to allow users to explore the data according to their needs. Additionally, efforts behind the scenes aimed at saving costs and boosting efficiency for NPS administrators. A significant requirement for NPS was the ability for multiple team members to update content simultaneously. To meet this need, we implemented a Headless CMS, which offers the necessary flexibility for several content editors to work together without encountering rigid publishing workflows or bottlenecks.
