Luboo Aged Care
Background Luboo was established in 2018 with the aim of providing parents peace of mind by enabling them to track their children's locations in outdoor environments, such as amusement parks. The solution integrates a wristband IoT tracker with a mobile application and backend services. The project gained significant traction, with trials conducted in various theme parks across the US and Australia. Unfortunately, the pandemic in 2020 resulted in the closure of theme parks. However, this led to a new opportunity for Luboo to adapt its product for aged care facilities. The revised objective was to provide reassurance to families and caregivers of residents with dementia, by sending alerts if a resident left the premises unexpectedly.
Brief QSSTUDIO was commissioned to develop a completely new solution using the existing infrastructure. Initially, we aimed to repurpose existing services and user interfaces where feasible. However, upon assessing the differences in use cases, we concluded that a completely new interface was necessary. One distinction was that while families might pair up to five children with wristbands, aged care facilities could have dozens or even hundreds of residents using the system. A key consideration was the target audience; aged care staff are often pressed for time and may have limited technical skills, so the interface needed to be quick to use and easy to comprehend. We also evaluated the best methods for alerts. In the theme park context, push notifications were used, being app-centric; however, for aged care staff, we believed SMS and phone calls would be more effective, as push notifications might be overlooked. Taking all these factors into account, QSSTUDIO successfully developed a solution that is user-friendly, highly functional, and cost-effective to operate.
