Polymorph develops a new mobile app for OneDayOnly

OneDayOnly, established in 2009, identified a gap in the South African market by providing products through an online platform at significant discounts for a limited time of 24 hours—hence the name "one day only." Over the last 12 years, the company has expanded to over 200 employees, based in Cape Town. They continue to present customers with a new selection of deals every day, ranging from gadgets to groceries, at prices lower than retail. Following a partnership with Polymorph to create a new mobile app, these offers are now available on both their mobile app and website. The OneDayOnly app features exclusive app-only offers and contests, as well as a wish list for users to save their favorite deals for future reference and enhanced search capabilities through improved categorization options. In 2020, Polymorph was tasked with developing OneDayOnly's mobile app in close collaboration with the company's backend development team, utilizing their existing backend Application Programming Interface (API). The objective was to quickly create a prototype of the app to test user experience and validate the concept with customers. Ultimately, OneDayOnly aimed for the app to be operational in time for Black Friday, the busiest shopping day in South Africa. Working with Polymorph, OneDayOnly successfully launched an innovative mobile solution for both iOS and Android devices. Kagiso Capital’s portfolio companies, Open Learning Technology (OLTech) and Polymorph, have teamed up to enhance the future of education. OLTech created a student administration system called eVision, which offers administrative and logistical assistance to higher education institutions in areas such as student recruitment, enrollment, distribution of study materials, assessments, certification, and ongoing student support. Recently, Kagiso Capital contacted Polymorph and introduced them to Rian Breed, OLTech's CEO, to develop a concept design aimed at upgrading eVision to better meet the needs of its current users and main stakeholders. The solution, eVision, is an advanced web-based system that manages the entire student lifecycle and maintains all administrative and academic records. It is compatible with various educational programs and can integrate with third-party systems like Moodle LMS, serving both large and small institutions. Polymorph embarked on a six-week journey to create the concept design, focusing on the technological, functional, and aesthetic aspects of the final product. Their work aimed to produce two main outcomes: a product strategy and an implementation plan. This process involved analyzing OLTech’s competitive position in the market and tailoring the product design to meet the specific needs of their target audience. The Polymorph team collaborated closely with OLTech, with their UX team conducting user research, interviewing participants, and assessing interactions with the current eVision platform. This thorough investigation highlighted what was effective and what frustrations users experienced, leading to a comprehensive understanding of the unmet needs of the target users.

STBB modernise workflows to increase brand loyalty

As a result, they collaborated with Polymorph to create a legal-specific solution that would integrate with other programs, especially LegalSuite, a popular conveyancing software. Before the launch, Polymorph carried out extensive market research with analysts to balance the needs of estate agents with client expectations. The team began by identifying the challenges that needed addressing to provide a solution that not only met STBB’s business process requirements but also catered to the primary needs of the key stakeholder: the app user. They then focused on how to best display and present this information. The solution was developed through an agile process, starting with a "sticky-board" approach to gather information while considering its display, content, and layout. This phase included developing graphical elements. The next phase was the app's market launch, which was positively received. However, a significant challenge lay in managing and enhancing the quality of the information provided by users, as the output's quality directly depends on the input quality. Consequently, regular audits were conducted, leading to improved functionality with each update over two years. A major advantage for STBB from the initial release was increased brand visibility and an excellent user experience.
