Coptic Orphans Donor Management Platform

Coptic Orphans had one of the most intricate data models we've encountered in our organization, which was stored as customized Salesforce objects. This presented significant technical challenges in creating a web interface that directly utilized Salesforce as the data source. We addressed this by developing an asynchronous data store for less critical Salesforce customer information, allowing us to batch upload raw data to the appropriate locations. Another hurdle was the complexity of Coptic Orphans’ donor workflows. With multiple funds featuring different triggers and allocations for each account, it was essential to enable donors to effectively split their payments without complicating the user experience. We also needed to ensure our application correctly allocated those splits to the corresponding Salesforce opportunities and reconciled them with the donors' accounts. A major challenge was navigating Coptic Orphans’ business rules regarding accepted currencies. During our discovery phase, we struggled to find a suitable payment gateway capable of accepting both credit card and ACH payments in all the currencies relevant to their global operations. Ultimately, we integrated multiple payment gateways, which our user experience team had to manage when presenting payment options to prospective donors. Furthermore, our development team had to determine how to represent these different translated currencies as distinct opportunity objects within their Salesforce system.

Awana: The Mozo Platform

Awana is a national, faith-based non-profit organization that initially collaborated with Pathos Ethos to develop a new software platform for a learning management system. During the project, the company’s needs shifted, and our team successfully adapted to create a digital management tool for their members. Here are some highlights we take pride in: The project utilized an Angular frontend, a Java Spring application server, and a Postgres SQL data model. We integrated it with existing software platforms that had been in use at Awana for years, including Salesforce for member data, Gigya for single sign-on authentication, and a proprietary platform for product distribution. Our team was responsible for setting up and maintaining all development operations, including AWS Elastic Beanstalk for the application server, Bamboo for continuous integration, Redis for data storage, and a javadoc documentation layer. Despite having no prior software development experience, we trained their IT team to operate as an effective Scrum development team, as well as mentoring their Director of Curriculum to become a true software product owner. After training their team, we continued to collaborate with them for an additional six months beyond the initial contract, working on product development until we successfully transferred maintenance responsibilities to their internal staff.

Investors' Circle

Investors’ Circle’s long-standing 25-year history in the impact investment sector needed to be a central feature of their new logo design. The goal was not to reinvent their brand, but to modernize it instead. To achieve this, we maintained a similar three-faceted circle design, retained the blue color palette with a contemporary twist, and kept their typography largely within the same font family. Another challenge was addressing the complexity of Investors’ Circle’s target audiences. With two highly valuable groups—Entrepreneurs and Investors—IC needed to prioritize which audience to emphasize on their homepage. After some brief consultations, we collectively decided that focusing on Investors was more crucial, leading to a homepage that primarily addressed Investors while still including some distinct calls-to-action for Entrepreneurs.
