SDI-to-IP Media Processing Platform

Imagine Communications

What was the challenge? The project required the development of a high-density, scalable media processing platform to convert SDI to IP. The device employs FPGA technology to manage HD and UHD video processing, including HDR. The software components of the platform needed enhancements and refinements, all while prioritizing maximum performance. However, the project's complexity necessitated a team skilled in broadcast-level video processing and experienced in both low-level and high-level software development. Our solution: We assembled a dedicated team of software engineers who possessed extensive expertise in embedded software and a solid understanding of video processing and streaming within demanding broadcast environments. Our team collaborated with the client over several years to enhance the overall software architecture and implement various new features. Result: The improved solution led to a more stable device, developed according to modern software design best practices. Additionally, the reduced boot times and low-footprint firmware contributed to a robust media processing platform.

Broadcast-grade Low Latency Multiviewer

Imagine Communications

**Challenge:** A prestigious sports event required an ultra-low latency multiviewer for its live broadcast production, which needed to be developed on the client's existing media processing infrastructure. Managing significant sports events necessitates communication between multiple locations and switching between various signal sources. Therefore, a low latency multiviewer is crucial for operators to minimize inconsistent delays from monitoring tools in control rooms. Our team was tasked with providing an efficient solution suitable for large-scale live production settings. **Solution:** We incorporated a new feature into the existing platform to facilitate HD/UHD multiviewer output management. This integration was accomplished using C/C++ alongside hardware accelerators in the device. **Result:** The solution transformed the device into a facility-level multi-viewing system capable of supporting up to 8 UHD display outputs in a single rack unit. Leveraging the device's new feature also allows for the simultaneous creation of multiviewer layouts on both HD and UHD canvases while processing SD, HD, and UHD sources.

Uncompressed-over-IP Video Processing Platform

Imagine Communications

What was the challenge? The project entailed creating a high-density video processing platform designed for broadcast-quality performance over uncompressed IP. This device can handle video and audio processing, compression, and multiplexing all within a single scalable system. It supports popular encoding formats such as MPEG-2 and H.264 in both SD and HD resolutions. The current environment for delivering live TV content is becoming increasingly complex, necessitating video and audio processing that meets stringent low latency criteria. Consequently, the software needed to be optimized to facilitate multi-channel processing while minimizing hardware resource costs. Our Solution: We developed the device firmware using C/C++ in a Linux environment. The management tool for the platform (GUI application) was redeveloped using Windows Presentation Foundation, replacing its previous version built with Microsoft Silverlight. These enhancements to the platform software enabled more efficient video processing pipelines and provided a seamless, user-friendly GUI for management tasks.
