Smith & Nephew plc (S&N) is a UK-based global company that manufactures medical equipment, with its headquarters located in Watford. The company specializes in producing advanced products for wound management, arthroscopy, trauma and clinical therapy, as well as orthopedic reconstruction. Each use of S&N’s surgical robot during procedures generates a significant amount of data, which can provide surgeons with important insights regarding their performance and outcomes. However, due to the complexity of this data, only specialized engineers have been able to interpret it up until now. To facilitate targeted insights that would assist surgeons, S&N sought a method to convert intricate procedural data from the surgical robot into user-friendly dashboards that their clients could easily understand. This initiative is backed by the government and had specific deliverables that needed to be met; fortunately, everything has progressed as planned. “One Beyond even completed the beta software ahead of schedule, allowing us to further explore machine learning solutions to address other workflow challenges,” Darren notes. Like many innovative and ambitious companies that are not primarily focused on technology, Bread Ltd has relied on spreadsheets and mostly manual processes for reporting various aspects, including sales, deliveries, and customer service issues. This often required multiple individuals to gather information from different systems or departmental silos. As the business experienced rapid growth and sought to better measure performance, optimize operations, and stay ahead of competitors, there was a pressing need to implement a more integrated, efficient, and automated reporting system that would provide timely insights across all of Bread Ltd’s operations. Due to its relatively limited experience in leveraging data and a shortage of internal tech resources, the company was concerned about achieving the necessary delivery pace. One Beyond facilitated this process by developing a proof-of-concept using one of Bread Ltd’s target data sources. This platform, which operates on secure Azure Synapse cloud infrastructure, utilizes the latest Microsoft technologies, is highly scalable, and links Bread Ltd’s data lake, transformation processes, and reporting layers to its PowerBI reporting and data science tools.

Asset Management Data Hub for Pearson

To cater to the global education market, Pearson requires a strong archiving and asset management system that enables its employees and trusted partners to easily search for content and submit requests for new uses. The team of over 22,500 employees may reach out to the Product Asset Management team or the broader Rights & Permissions Group for tasks such as corrections, updates, and adapting materials for different regions. Pearson narrowed down its options to three development firms and selected One Beyond as the most suitable choice. Georgie stated, “One Beyond visited our offices to review our requirements. We were impressed by their previous projects with other clients; they assured us that everything we needed was achievable, and they planned to utilize the latest Microsoft technologies, which seemed very future-oriented.” One Beyond subsequently developed a new Asset Management Data Hub for Pearson—an online application that allows secure access from any location. The system, built on a .NET core with a Vue.js front end, is hosted on Microsoft’s Azure cloud infrastructure. Access is controlled through Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML), an open standard for authentication and authorization data exchange, and integrates with Pearson’s single sign-on (SSO) service.
