Launching a B2B mental wellbeing app
Chris Barez-Brown and Jim Lusty founded Talk It Out, a program marketed as 'nutritional support for the mind' that offered one-on-one training for businesses. However, they faced a challenge in scaling their service from a limited number of individual sessions to thousands of users, which prompted them to go digital. They envisioned a product that would enable users to complete a TIO session and establish a daily rhythm while also tracking their wellbeing to enhance their mood and productivity.
To address this, we initiated the project with a series of user research sessions, leading to a 5-day Design Sprint. Throughout this sprint, we prototyped and tested the foundation of the Talk It Out product. Drawing from our user research, we created an ideal product prototype, and testing with actual customers revealed valuable insights. We discovered an innovative method for developing a regular session cadence that gradually boosts user engagement, as well as effective ways to allow users to monitor their wellbeing through stats and streaks.
With our findings from the Design Sprint in hand, we began developing our iOS and Android apps with the help of a cross-functional team of engineers, designers, and project managers. Within 8 months, we launched two products. A standout feature of Talk It Out is the option to record audio sessions, which users can then play back while taking notes called 'Insights.' We utilized Azure for AI-driven transcription, converting audio to text that users can easily access later. Additionally, the nuom product team developed a robust cloud system and CMS, enabling Talk It Out to create, set, and promote challenges within the app.
In May, we released the app to 750 beta users from enterprise clients. Users were enthusiastic about the app, with over 75% engaging with it daily. For the complete case study, visit: https://www.nuom.co.uk/case-studies/talk-it-out-app.
