This initiative came from analyzing popular searches during the holiday season, revealing that ‘recipes’ is the most sought-after term in December, with inquiries for “gingerbread house recipes” showing the highest growth compared to previous years. To start, simply say, “Hey Google, talk to My Gingerbread Creator,” and answer a series of questions to craft your unique gingerbread house design. You could choose to have it by the beach or in outer space, include a kangaroo or aliens, or even add a chimney shaped like a unicorn horn. After that, you’ll find out what ingredients to purchase, and you can follow along with a personalized instructional video hosted by Australian chef Anna Polyviou, perfect for family participation.

Bayi Gardiya

Artist Dr. Christian Thompson reached out to us to create an art experience aimed at preserving his traditional Bidjara language, which is recognized as an Indigenous lost language. We collaborated to develop an emotional visual experience using virtual reality, a medium Christian had not explored before, complemented by a beautiful, melancholic soundtrack of him singing in Bidjara. He chose a location of personal significance, a creek known as The Sixth Mile in Barcaldine, western Queensland, as the setting for this unique project. To build the environment, we utilized thousands of reference photos, guided by Christian's memories and interpretations of his childhood experiences to shape the more abstract aspects of the scenery. We opted for a fully virtual experience instead of filming with 360-degree video, as the immersive quality of virtual worlds is essential to the artwork, surpassing what photographed environments can achieve. In Bayi Gardiya (Singing Desert), light symbolizes memory and language, while the changing landscape reflects the cyclical nature of life. Given that the piece centers around memory, we aimed to create something profoundly memorable.

This innovative initiative marks a significant advancement in speech technology for individuals with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), allowing those who lose their ability to speak to communicate in their own unique voice. Collaborating with BWM Dentsu, The ALS Association, and Lyrebird, we developed Project Revoice. This initiative has successfully restored the voice of Pat Quinn, one of the founders of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, who was unable to record his voice before ALS affected his speech. By utilizing footage from his numerous interviews during the Ice Bucket Challenge, our team was able to reconstruct his voice. Previously, ALS patients could only use pre-recorded messages for communication; however, through our partnership with Canadian software company Lyrebird, we developed a comprehensive voice clone, enabling Pat to speak naturally and freely using his own voice rather than a robotic substitute, in conjunction with his eye-tracking assistive technology. The person who championed awareness for ALS has now regained his own voice. Achieving high-quality voice replication typically requires extensive recorded speech, which many current patients lack, making it crucial to establish a platform that allows individuals to capture their voice while they still can. To address this need, we collaborated with Space66 to create an accessible website for ALS patients to record and store their voices in the cloud. Project Revoice is now actively encouraging MND and ALS communities globally to document their voices for potential digital recreation using this cutting-edge voice cloning technology. Pat Quinn asserts, “ALS takes and takes and takes. This time, I will take something back! For those living with ALS to know they can still communicate in their own voice, even after it has been taken away, will fundamentally change how people cope with this illness.”
