Designing identity and experience for the Connect

VAS

Establishing the identity of VAS's first Connect Summit in Beaver Creek, CO Shortly after becoming the CEO of VAS, Tim Taylor made a bold commitment to hold their first user summit within his first year. This was a significant challenge, especially in light of the considerable transformations happening within the organization. To achieve this, VAS partnered with Middlestate and various creative teams to develop a unique brand and experience that stood out among dairy industry events. The outcome was a three-day dairy technology summit held in the picturesque resort town of Beaver Creek, CO, named the Connect Summit. Middlestate, alongside our partners at Elastik, crafted a flexible identity system, created environmental designs throughout the resort, produced striking digital presentations on a cutting-edge 70-ft video wall, and designed an engaging experience for attendees. The sold-out event was deemed a success by all standards, and we are currently gearing up for our return to Beaver Creek for the second edition in June.

Redesigning an Ol' favorite for Western Milling

Western Milling

Revamping a Classic for Western Milling In 2018, Western Milling, a prominent grain and milling operation based in Goshen, faced a challenge. Their growing retail division had a key product, Showstring Feed, that was in need of a makeover. The premium feed’s outdated packaging failed to stand out against more competitive options in stores. To address this, Western Milling enlisted the help of Middlestate for a rebranding initiative. Through a competitive analysis and discussions with feed store managers as well as Western Milling employees, valuable insights emerged that were vital for creating the new packaging. The updated design retained the original color scheme because consumers often identified the product by its distinctive colors, such as “I want the purple Showstring” or “Hand me the green Showstring.” The new packaging featured flat artwork and was printed on matte paper, which helped it stand out from the glossy and flashy bags of competitors. The revamped product made its debut on shelves in the last quarter of 2018.
