OUR STORY
Map Design Studio masterfully transformed The Lighthouse, a historic 1937 Venice Beach post office, into a vibrant 24,000 sq ft creative campus for Whalar Group. This unique space, designed by lead designer Artemis Papadatou alongside Monica Llamas and Anne Roca, skillfully employs lighting to create intimate areas that transition gracefully from productive daytime work settings to lively evening event atmospheres. The campus comprises two levels, featuring a 72-seat theater, studios, podcast suites, editing bays, and a test kitchen. Warm, inviting illumination on the ground floor extends into the basement, while studios benefit from cooler, brighter lighting, emphasizing functionality and ambience. Photographed by Yoshihiro Makino and Ye Rin Mok, The Lighthouse stands as a celebrated example of innovative workplace lighting design in Venice Beach, California.
