Healthy Habits for Kids

UC Davis

The Challenge UC Davis required Spanish translations to launch their educational curriculum for children from PreK to third grade. The material was extensive, detailing the USDA Food and Nutrition Service guidelines, and included five teachers' guides along with handouts for students and parents. Additionally, we had to ensure the material met ADA compliance standards. How Localipsum Assisted Our examination of the original content allowed us to showcase our skills beyond just translation. We proposed a complete curriculum redesign, as the existing images were outdated. Our goal was to create an engaging presentation that would excite teachers and motivate students. This was a chance for us to collaborate closely with UC Davis and the original content creators to enhance how their material was displayed. Understanding that design preferences vary among clients, we invited four senior designers to present their ideas for a total overhaul, including style, layout, content organization, fonts, and character designs for the client's selection. We wanted the project's personality to truly stand out. After UC Davis chose a designer, we focused on assembling a skilled typesetting team. This team developed new layouts for the English content, and once that was finished, we assembled a top-tier translation team with a consultant specialized in primary education. The initial task was to create a glossary and term base in Spanish to ensure that teachers, children, and parents could easily understand the translated material. The final product was exactly what UC Davis needed — a fun, engaging, and easily readable curriculum, complete with appealing visuals tailored for their teachers and young audience.

Kanban Portezuelo

Salta la Chiva

The Challenge We were tasked by Salta la Chiva to translate a renowned Argentinian board game named Kanban Portezuelo. This game emerged from a collaborative effort between our client and the Japanese International Cooperation Agency, Jica. Kanban Portezuelo equips companies and essential production teams with tools to grasp productivity enhancements through the use of Kaizen methodology. How Localipsum Contributed The board game needed to make its journey across international waters to Mozambique, requiring translation from Spanish to Portuguese. Although Portuguese is commonly translated, adapting it to the Mozambican variant is quite distinct. You already have a sense of our approach: we needed to assemble a team passionate about board games to ensure an enjoyable and engaging experience. As soon as we learned about this project, we were excited to dive in! Following our guidelines, we successfully assembled the ideal team.

Shady Ships

Ship It Zero

Shady Ships collaborated with Ship It Zero to launch a reimagined video campaign that highlights the often-overlooked environmental and public health issues associated with retail companies’ dependence on fossil-fueled shipping. The Challenge Ship It Zero aims to raise awareness about the pollution caused by transoceanic cargo ships. Although they had prepared their campaign materials in English, they required a Spanish version that maintained the original intent, context, emotion, and tone of the video. The main difficulty was adapting the clever connotations and wordplay found in the English version. How Localipsum Assisted Localipsum not only translated the video but also applied transcreation to ensure every word was infused with the necessary creativity and cultural understanding to connect with the intended audience. Despite the challenges, we successfully achieved our goals and are very proud of the outcome of our collaboration.
