Weather data analytics for Kent County Council

Kent County Council

As severe weather events are expected to become more frequent due to climate change, it is essential to collect useful data regarding this issue, particularly for public organizations like local councils. In response, Kent County Council has created a plan to address severe weather conditions such as flooding, storms, and heatwaves. This involves conducting a climate change impact assessment to determine how the council can enhance its response. However, the existing SWIMS weather reporting software was not gathering enough data to effectively guide this response. To address this, we recommended rebuilding the SWIMS software using .NET and hosting it on Microsoft Azure. With Azure’s well-managed and scalable cloud services, we aim to ensure the software's long-term effectiveness. Through close collaboration with Kent County Council, we successfully developed a user-friendly system for non-technical staff. This resulted in an immediate advantage by providing a more comprehensive climate change impact assessment. Our upgraded SWIMS software allows the council to precisely quantify the financial impact of climate change in Kent over any specified timeframe, offering a unique capability in the market to capture and analyze these costs.

Power BI and Azure integration for Tullis Russell

Tullis Russell

Tullis Russell has been a leader in the paper and film coating sector for more than 200 years. However, like many long-standing manufacturers, some of its software systems had fallen behind contemporary solutions over time. The company's business intelligence (BI) infrastructure included a COBOL ERP, Microsoft Excel, and a BI tool called Matillion. This setup had its limitations, prompting the IT and finance teams to seek a more modern alternative. Their search led them to Influential’s Power BI consultancy. Based on the issues identified by Tullis Russell, Influential’s consultants suggested a solution that involved Power BI integrated with Azure. This approach utilized Azure’s serverless cloud, meaning the company only incurred costs based on actual usage, eliminating fixed expenses. Moreover, Microsoft managed all IT maintenance. Most importantly, the new integration with Power BI and Azure allowed for data updates every 15 minutes, enabling the finance team to monitor the company’s progress in near real-time.

Healthcare portal development solutions

Our client, a company that collaborates closely with the NHS, identified a need for simplified reporting on healthcare data security. They set out to create the first software specifically aimed at reporting NHS cyber alerts (previously known as CareCERT). The client prioritized making the product both cost-effective and efficient for NHS marketing. Given that the NHS handles sensitive data for millions, ensuring data security was crucial. Their search for a solution to develop a healthcare portal brought them to Influential Software. With three decades of experience in business intelligence and software development, our expertise aligned with their requirements. The project involved building a platform capable of scanning a complete network from a central server, then comparing the findings against a list of established security vulnerabilities. Eventually, the client expanded the project to include scanning individual devices and creating a version for personal home use. Ensuring the product was affordable for various NHS trusts was essential, but the client also needed the software to be user-friendly for non-technical NHS staff. To address this, we designed a visually appealing dashboard featuring easy-to-read metrics and established secure connectivity between on-premises and cloud applications.
