Preserving a Sustainable Future
HPZS is a comprehensive architectural firm that is fully owned by women, bringing specialized expertise in adaptive reuse, historic preservation, sustainable design, and affordable housing. Since our establishment in 1976, we have garnered numerous awards at the national, state, and local levels for our projects. We are committed to delivering sustainable solutions to our clients through a range of services that support integrated and energy-efficient design. Our portfolio includes projects such as various initiatives at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, the redevelopment of the Chicago Housing Authority’s Dearborn Homes, the restoration of the Dana Thomas House Museum designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in Springfield, Illinois, and the Yannell PHIUS Residence, the first certified Passive House renovation in the Midwest. We take pride in our dedication to preserving our shared history while repurposing existing buildings with technology to enhance the urban landscape. At HPZS, we actively align with our clients' goals to understand their specific needs and collaboratively create a shared vision that leads to innovative design solutions. We strive to preserve a sustainable future for the built environment and the diverse Chicago community to which we belong, while also practicing our values. We promote a culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion within our firm and throughout our work, supporting minority- and women-owned businesses in our consultancy collaborations, employing and advancing individuals through a DEI/BIPOC perspective, and dedicating our financial and volunteer resources to uplift underserved communities.
