After 21 years of development and growth, the Natural Capital Investment Fund (NCIFund) recognized the need to rename and rebrand themselves to more accurately reflect the impact they create. Finding a name that resonates with stakeholders is always a challenge, particularly for a well-established development partner in Appalachian communities. Building and sustaining brand equity relies heavily on deliberate engagement. Through comprehensive discussions with their leadership team, employees, partners, and both past and current clients, the core values of PCAP were refined, which became the driving force behind the new name and branding strategy. Given the legacy, respect, and affection that both staff and the community held for NCIFund, stakeholder engagement throughout the rebranding process was crucial to harness that passion and cultivate supporters for the new brand. Their new name more effectively represents their mission and future direction, injecting clarity and enthusiasm into their goals and services. Destination Dev. & Branding: Alabama's I-22 Region

The I-22 Strategic Development Project was spearheaded by our collaborators at the University of Alabama’s Center for Economic Development (UACED) and received funding from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC). The initiative aimed to actively involve local stakeholders in the development of their regional brand. Over a span of 10 months, H+W and our partners facilitated a shift from individual perspectives to a more collaborative regional mindset among the counties. This involved redefining community identities and establishing a unified regional message. As the counties progressed through the strategic planning phase, we concentrated on assisting local leaders in identifying synergies between regional resources and experiences. Discussions highlighted themes of outdoor recreation, history, heritage, and the arts. Alabama Gulf State Park Exhibit and Interpretive Design

Giving 6150 acres a voice: The creation and implementation of the interpretive design experience for Alabama’s Gulf State Park showcased our project management expertise. It also enabled H+W to apply the full range of skills we've acquired throughout our careers—design, research, writing, illustration, and photography—on a large scale. After the successful launch of the award-winning website for the park enhancement project, we focused on narrating the story of this unique location. As the leaders of the interpretive design experience, our responsibilities included managing, creating, and executing a comprehensive interpretive story package across the park. Throughout the two and a half years we worked on the project, we wrote thousands of words and designed over 500 discovery moments throughout Gulf State Park. This park is truly exceptional, located between two popular tourist spots, Orange Beach and Gulf Shores. It stands out as one of the last natural areas along the Gulf Coast and boasts incredible environmental diversity. Spanning over 6,100 acres, the park begins in the warm waters of the Gulf and extends northward, featuring white sandy beaches, ancient dunes, wetlands, lakes, scrub lands, pine savannas, and a stunning maritime forest. 2016, 2018 American Graphic Design Awards Services provided:
