Onboarding Employees with VR Safety Training

American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers

ExxonMobil needed to swiftly train hundreds of new hires for a significant expansion of its Gulf Coast facilities, but ongoing construction made in-person training impossible. Brightline created a 130-task VR simulation to instruct employees on how to start a fired heater, a crucial operation that could have serious repercussions if done incorrectly. The simulation featured a classroom tutorial along with two training scenarios: a guided version with prompts and support, and an unguided option that permitted trainees to safely fail and learn from their errors within the VR setting. This VR training allowed employees to complete thorough safety training before the facility's opening and proved to be more cost-effective than traditional training methods, reducing training time by up to 75% and decreasing time lost due to workplace injuries by 43%.

MBA Students Learn with VR Data Visualization

Fordham University Gabelli School of Business

MBA students at Fordham University explored the possibilities of VR/AR in the classroom through the Gabelli School AR/VR Challenge, aimed at introducing them to the technology and assessing its utility as a business presentation tool. Participants engaged in a role-playing marketing presentation where they analyzed data in VR to determine which athlete to endorse and then delivered their arguments in a mixed reality format to the instructor and peers. The VR framework featured six-dimensional graphing capabilities, holographic business presentations, and kinetic voting. Notably, two students correctly identified UFC fighter Israel Adesanya as the athlete with the most potential based on physiological data, and he subsequently won the Middleweight championship belt three months later. The success of this challenge prompted Fordham University to further adopt VR/AR technology.
