The Brief Perlas Group offers a range of financial services and has established an extensive network of terminals where these services are accessible. These terminals are conveniently located in most supermarkets and stores nationwide, ensuring that financial services are available even outside of regular business hours. The introduction of these terminals proved to be a timely and effective solution. Over the past ten years, the prevalence of smartphones and tablets in our daily lives has increased, leading to many tasks being handled via these devices. This shift inspired the creation of the Perlas Go application, aimed at "transferring the terminal to a mobile phone," thereby making terminal services accessible on mobile devices. The supporting commercial services system for the entire terminal network is already in place, and the next step is to make it available for mobile use. To achieve this, the Perlas Go application operates on a separate backend that collaborates with the Commercial Services system through an API. All payment data is relayed to the Commercial Services system, which manages settlements with providers, partners, and intermediaries. The commercial services system periodically sends data on invoices available for payment by Perlas Go users to the Perlas Go system. Additionally, a subsystem for loading data from service providers was created, enabling vendors to submit billing information in various formats, either as files or through web services. To accommodate the diverse data formats provided by service providers, the data loading subsystem incorporates a configuration mechanism to define the format of the incoming data, thus allowing for flexibility without requiring software modifications. Key features of the app include its integration with the Payment Initiation Service (PIS) system currently under development, which facilitates payments through banks operating in Lithuania. The result is that the Perlas Go app, available in the Apple, Google, and Huawei app stores, enables payments for a wide array of services, all in one place and at the touch of a button. This application has also successfully attracted younger, tech-savvy users who were previously unfamiliar with Perlas terminals.

The Brief Illux, a Danish company, specializes in custom art printing, providing a range of art printing solutions for home customers, professional photographers, and businesses. They reached out to us in 2007, looking to create a webshop that would facilitate online sales and improve their internal processes. Since then, we have assisted them in growing their business by adding new features. What We Did: To meet Illux’s goals, it was essential to go beyond a standard webshop. We needed to grasp their product offerings, understand customer choices prior to ordering, and consider various business processes. This involved numerous workshops and multiple iterations of wireframes and designs to achieve the best outcome. We chose Magento for its robust e-commerce foundation and strong reputation at the time, along with its extensibility, which was vital for Illux’s complex products and processes. Its availability of plugins also simplified the integration of general e-commerce functionalities later on. For technical reasons, we opted for TypeScript and KnockoutJS—KnockoutJS providing a fast, responsive custom interface for users, while TypeScript helped avoid numerous development issues. Technology: The Result: Initially, we established an online presence for Illux, which led to significant business growth. When Illux acquired a competitor and needed to introduce new product lines, we developed a new webshop and integrated it with existing platforms. In 2015, a revamped version of the webshop was launched, followed by an additional site for business clients. By 2018, a third webshop targeting photographers was also introduced. Over the years, Illux has expanded, and their vision for the webshops has evolved to encompass more aspects of their business. Our collaborative efforts continue to enhance these platforms to this day.

An online GPS-tracking system with complex logistics functionality

**Overview** Uniqtracking focuses on providing GPS vehicle tracking services. Before reaching out to us, they relied on a different third-party system for these functions. However, due to its limited features and conflicts with the system's owners, they recognized the need to develop their own unique solution. Our primary role was to design and create the infrastructure from scratch. **Our Approach** We developed an online GPS tracking system equipped with advanced logistics capabilities, such as fleet management, tracking driver logs, real-time vehicle monitoring, and alarms for theft, speeding, and entering or exiting defined areas. The software shows the real-time locations of vehicles with installed GPS devices, and it archives all recorded data for the device's entire lifespan. The system was designed using a modular (microservice) architecture, facilitating easier development since typically only one or two modules are affected by changes. This architecture enables parallel data processing, allowing it to be distributed across multiple servers if necessary, accommodating unlimited data flow and supporting a large number of GPS devices. Although such extensive capacity wasn’t required initially, having this capability built in has enabled the system to adapt over the years while effectively managing increasing demands. An event store database was chosen for tracking all changes within the system, which simplifies the addition of new features that remain compatible. Existing events can be reprocessed with new functionalities, allowing for immediate data updates. For instance, if we have a list of customers and want to include their creation dates, we can introduce that feature, reprocess all customer creation events in the event store, and update the existing customer records with their respective creation dates. **Technology and Results** We successfully established a system that has experienced significant growth in usage without requiring extensive rewrites to accommodate this increase. The anticipations made during the initial design stages facilitated horizontal scaling (adding more servers) instead of vertical scaling (upgrading server power, which is often more costly), requiring only minor hardware enhancements. Since the launch of the new system, Uniqtracking has been able to swiftly add new features and adapt to market demands effectively.
