Port of cultures. Museum in Mariupol.
Just days before the onset of the war, the FLEXREALITY team completed a significant project called Port of Cultures for a museum in Mariupol. Our primary aim was to showcase the history and distinct characteristics of Mariupol through various elements, objects, and images—referred to as identity artifacts—in a virtual reality format that allows users to navigate and interact with these items. We developed a virtual museum where users can explore historical videos and photographs linked to Mariupol by selecting specific objects (such as Mosaic elements, Tartar tiles, Regimental seals, Bricks, Fishing gear, Greek ornaments, Metalworks, Mushlas, Tassels, and Anchor logos). As time goes by, the war rages on, and it is becoming increasingly evident how valuable our project is, underscoring the significance of preserving cultural heritage in virtual reality. While we are uncertain about which artifacts may still physically exist, they will endure forever through VR technology. The Ukrainian aspect of Mariupol's culture is now immortalized.
