Selco Builders Warehouse

Selco Builders Warehouse, a subsidiary of Grafton Group (a company listed on the FTSE 250), recently revamped its website and determined that enhancing this investment could be achieved by launching a mobile app. After evaluating various web development partners, Selco reached out to Exploding Phone for insights on best practices within their specified limitations. Exploding Phone proposed a two-phase collaboration. The first phase would involve creating wireframes and visual designs that showcase different options for the app. This would enable Selco to select suitable functionalities and subsequently enter into a contract with Exploding Phone to develop the app. The scope of work outlined several essential features for the app, including a Project Planning section, a GPS-based branch locator, various calculator tools, and access to Trade Card account information. A crucial objective was to ensure that the app provided a unified experience with the Selco website while also offering a complementary array of additional services. This led to the need for a variety of technical solutions, including: - Integrating the Magento API for the Branch Finder feature. - Adding webhooks to the sign-up process to direct users back to the app after completing the form. - Implementing a hybrid model that combines native and web-app features, allowing tools like Calculators, Branch Lists, and the Trade Card feature to run natively, while the Project Planning tool remains web-based. - Modifying the print function for the Project List to send a PDF file to the app that activates the native 'share' function, which includes an option for printing directly from the app.

S&B Waste Management Multipurpose Android App

S&B Waste Management

The Android app replaces two outdated paper-based signature systems, expediting the invoicing process for S&B Waste Management and Recycling Limited. Their IT partner, Ultralogic Solutions, identified Exploding Phone as a suitable developer to create an Android app that streamlines two of S&B’s operational tasks. For Skip/Bin Collections and Deliveries, drivers can use the app to record various scenarios upon arriving at a customer site to collect or replace skips: a) the skip was collected and the content is as expected, b) the skip was collected but the content differs from what was anticipated, or c) the skip could not be collected due to an obstruction. In the latter two cases, drivers can take photos of the issues, and in all instances, they capture a signature from the site manager. This data is automatically uploaded to S&B's order processing system, where it is cross-referenced with a price book to generate an invoice. For On-Site Waste Disposal at the Weighbridge, the Weighbridge Operative uses the app to record the customer's name, vehicle registration number, type of waste, and gross and tare weights. Similar to the Skip/Bin Collections feature, the user can also collect customer signatures and take photos if there are discrepancies in the stated versus actual types of waste. Once the delivery is confirmed, the Weighbridge Operative can produce a PDF Waste Transfer Note for the driver, and the transaction is recorded for invoicing. By digitizing a previously three-part paper system, S&B has significantly reduced the time taken between skip/bin movements, tipping operations, and invoice generation, while also making it easier to archive and retrieve tickets, photos, and signatures.

In 2021, TwoKnights Limited acquired a software system through the purchase of a recruitment company. Initially, the team planned to focus on the existing business model, viewing the custom-built software as a minor aspect of the acquisition. However, discussions with Exploding Phone led TwoKnights Limited to realize that the current system possessed considerable inherent value, which could be enhanced and marketed to organizations seeking to hire or manage workers. The former in-house system was primarily used for organizing seasonal worker placements. TwoKnights Limited envisioned transforming into a versatile recruitment management platform based on a Software as a Service (SaaS) model, allowing the company to sell the system to external clients. They assigned Exploding Phone the task of rebuilding the system accordingly. The ‘Gateway’ service was upgraded to accommodate various user roles: Employers (formerly known as Farms), Sources (previously Agents), Workers, and SaaS Admins (TwoKnights staff). Each user category can create and manage both standard and admin users with enhanced privileges. Additionally, Employers and Sources can choose to subscribe or unsubscribe, with paying customers enjoying a broader range of rights and benefits. The Gateway was also improved to simplify recruitment processes, including managing visa-related and contractual documents, as well as the onboarding and termination of workers and transfer requests. In late 2023, the introduction of 'bespoke' orders allowed Employers and Sources to customize their needs to meet government visa regulations. Other significant developments included facial recognition features, support for digital signatures, and an advanced geolocation system for verifying workers who leave.
