CRISIS CONNECTIONS: SQL MIGRATION PROJECT

Challenge Crisis Connections is a nonprofit organization that provides telephone-based crisis intervention, information, and referrals to community services for both youth and adults in Seattle. Their existing case management system was outdated and relied on an unsupported operating system and version of Microsoft SQL Server. Additionally, the technical team that developed a supplementary reporting system had departed long ago. Compounding the IT challenges was the fact that the service operates 24 hours a day, every day of the year. To address these issues, Crisis Clinic brought in EXP to assist in upgrading to a supported and ideally faster and more reliable backend system. Solution EXP was contracted to provide technical leadership and database administration for the project. The project scope included various tasks aimed at modernizing the infrastructure. Result After conducting an initial assessment and providing recommendations, EXP moved forward with their plan. They created a redundant and fault-tolerant system using SQL Server Log-shipping functionality, which allowed for failover within minutes if the primary SQL server went down. The EXP team executed the database migration during a scheduled four-hour downtime, resulting in a significantly faster and more supportable environment. CELLNETIX: OFFICE 365 EMAIL MIGRATION – WITH A TWIST

In early 2017, two major pathology groups in Western Washington, CellNetix and PSIP, merged, resulting in a new company comprising around 70 doctors and 400 employees across 25 hospitals, labs, and offices in Washington and Alaska. The challenge arose because CellNetix was operating on an on-premises Exchange 2010 system, while PSIP utilized Office 365 Exchange Online. Migrating PSIP users from the cloud to on-premise email was illogical, as CellNetix already possessed Office 365 licenses but hadn't initiated their migration. To address this issue, CellNetix enlisted EXP to devise and implement a plan to transition from their outdated Exchange Server to Office 365, concurrently merging PSIP's existing Office 365 mailboxes into the CellNetix tenant. EXP's solution consisted of three key steps: first, they set up a hybrid configuration for CellNetix’s current exchange server; second, they employed a third-party migration tool; and third, they facilitated the mailbox transfers. A pivotal aspect of this solution was the swift migration of PSIP’s email, which allowed both companies to rapidly communicate on a unified email platform. This process was seamless for CellNetix, enabling PSIP’s mailboxes and domain to transition directly to Office 365 instead of the older Exchange 2010 server. Furthermore, CellNetix was able to migrate its mailboxes without any downtime, ensuring that the integrated mail system remained operational throughout.
