Legacy System Migration
Hudson Holdings Group collaborated with Eunoia to migrate its legacy system and rebuild its data platform, aiming for reliable reporting, scalable analytics, and enhanced data accessibility throughout the organization. The group manages a substantial retail and distribution network in Africa and Southern Europe. However, their existing data platform had become a limitation due to issues with data quality, unreliable data pipelines, and sluggish data loading, which undermined confidence in reports and restricted teams' ability to utilize data for daily decision-making. As the business grew, the platform was unable to scale to meet the increasing data and reporting requirements. Eunoia was brought in to modernize the legacy system with a new data architecture based on Databricks. The project commenced with an evaluation of the current platform and the establishment of a comprehensive migration plan. A new cloud-based data environment was created to accommodate various data sources and future scalability. This effort included redesigning the data model to align better with business requirements, constructing more robust data pipelines with logging and error handling features, and migrating essential data from Microsoft Dynamics 365 ERP and foot traffic systems. Thorough testing and validation were performed to ensure data accuracy, completeness, and consistency prior to deployment. Over a six-month period, Hudson successfully transitioned away from the legacy system. The new platform enhanced data quality and reporting reliability, decreased operational burdens, and eliminated performance bottlenecks in the business intelligence environment. Business users received access to self-service analytics, which diminished their dependence on IT and empowered teams to engage with data more autonomously. The outcome was a scalable data platform that supports Hudson’s continued growth, enhances trust in reporting, and establishes a more robust foundation for analytics throughout the organization.
