GDCh.app - an app for the German Chemical Society
In mid-2020, the GDCh embarked on a mission to find the ideal partner for developing their GDCh.app—a digital flagship project for the esteemed German Chemical Society. The directive was straightforward: within a year, we needed to create the GDCh.app to benefit over 30,000 international members. The app was to integrate news, articles, and social media from various sources and allow members to create profiles and connect with colleagues. It needed to be accessible online as well as on the App Store and Play Store. Given the intricate technical and content-related requirements, we recommended starting with a UX and concept workshop. This would help finalize the feature set with all stakeholders and establish a solid foundation for the IT project. Collaboratively, we progressed through the Concept Phase by creating wireframes and developing features through Design Sprints and UX Workshops. The wireframes were then enhanced in Visual Design for color and aesthetics before being transformed into program code. We developed a combination of seven back-end microservices that operate automatically, managing updates and upgrades for member data, articles, images, videos, logins, push notifications, authors, and more. Thanks to a decentralized cloud-based microservice architecture, these services are self-sufficient, resilient, and easily scalable.
