Kubota

Kubota Australia is in the process of retiring up to 40 legacy applications as part of its digital transformation initiative aimed at adopting a new enterprise platform. A significant aspect of this transformation involves partnering with Empyrean to deploy Microsoft Power Apps, a Platform-as-a-Service solution that facilitates low-code application development and integrates with various data sources, including SharePoint, Microsoft 365, Dynamics 365, and SQL Server. So far, Empyrean has created five new applications. One such application is the Chain of Responsibility App, which assists the logistics department in digitally monitoring the transportation, loading, and unloading of products. Key features of the app include: - Tracking the anticipated arrival of trucks - Ensuring drivers are qualified and have completed necessary induction training - Confirming that loads are secured properly - Facilitating the efficient transfer of responsibility to the next transit contact This transition to a digital format modernizes the chain of responsibility. Previously, Kubota’s logistics team relied on a paper-based system, which, according to Lodder, made it “nearly impossible” to ensure adherence to the proper protocols. Moreover, the implementation of business process automation has enhanced Kubota's overall compliance and risk management, as well as improved the quality of its auditable records. Automation has also reduced IT overhead, allowing Kubota's IT team to concentrate on other priorities, as Empyrean manages the daily maintenance of the new applications. “The initial phase has mainly focused on developing the workflows and designing the applications to maintain a consistent user experience, enabling end-users to easily adopt new apps as they are introduced. Empyrean has been excellent in establishing that standard, which we plan to continue utilizing for upcoming projects in the next two to three years.”

Implementing a hyper-converged infrastructure

The City of Whitehorse

Whitehorse City Council (WCC) reached out to Cloud Solutions Group (CSG) to assess their infrastructure portfolio and pinpoint ways to optimize both their primary and secondary systems. With their legacy infrastructure nearing the end of its lifecycle, WCC aimed to ensure that their technology could accommodate the growing demand for resources over the next five years. CSG recommended a VSAN hyper-converged infrastructure that consolidated storage and computing into one integrated system. This new private cloud solution provided WCC with a secure, high-performance, and flexible ICT environment that can scale with their evolving business requirements. To guarantee business continuity, a resilient architecture with strong disaster recovery capabilities was developed, allowing for automated failover and failback of services. CSG successfully migrated workloads from the old infrastructure to the new system, ensuring minimal disruption during the transition. The implementation featured a scripted Disaster Recovery (DR) process for reliable recovery through automated and pre-tested procedures. Performance enhancements were notable; the council significantly improved their DR time compared to the previous setup, now achieving a 15-minute replication frequency to meet their Recovery Point Objective (RPO). They also satisfied their Recovery Time Objective (RTO) by completing full site recovery within one hour. The new infrastructure not only boosts reliability and availability but also reduces the physical footprint, enhancing environmental sustainability and cost efficiency. WCC is now equipped to support the council’s growth for the next five years.

Power Apps development – retail case study

Munro Footwear Group

The Munro Footwear Group operates over 290 stores and employs 2,000 people across the country. In the footwear industry, managing inventory can be challenging due to the significant space required for packaging. Balancing stock for online orders in warehouses with retail inventory for customer displays can be costly. To streamline inventory management while offering a full online selection, it's vital for online customers to purchase items directly from either warehouses or stores. Munro identified an opportunity in omni-channel fulfillment, allowing customers to buy online with the store handling the packing and shipping. However, their point-of-sale (POS) system, developed in the 1990s, makes a complete overhaul a lengthy endeavor. To address this, Munro leveraged their existing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Supply Chain systems capable of supporting omni-channel fulfillment, requiring only a straightforward solution to connect web orders to stores and integrate with their delivery and e-commerce platforms. This effectively transformed the stores into smaller warehouses. They utilized the cloud's simplicity and Power Apps' low-code features to implement this solution on various devices, such as tablets, handheld Androids, and desktop PCs. This setup allowed all stores to log in, view their assigned orders, and manage picking, packing, and dispatching. By consolidating inventory across locations, Munro successfully established a virtual warehouse.
