Custom Solution for Trust Management

The client offers Trustee and Escrow services across various sectors, focusing on the protection and management of funds for stakeholders, consumers, and other beneficiaries. Their current system was unable to scale to their requirements, prompting the desire for a highly scalable cloud-native platform capable of handling high transaction volumes. This platform needed to automate key business functions, including client banking, claim processing, verification, anomaly detection, reconciliation, and reporting. Edstem partnered with Ayata Commerce, one of their affiliates in the UK, to create initial UX prototypes in Figma and a high-level architecture. After collaborating with subject matter experts from the client to refine the concepts, the project officially began. During development, we faced numerous challenges related to automation and optimization to achieve the platform's performance benchmarks, as well as the need to migrate large amounts of data from various legacy systems in different formats. The solution included a React frontend application, backend microservices, and AWS Lambdas, alongside a MongoDB Atlas backend database and AWS Step Functions for orchestration. On the engineering front, we adhered to best practices, utilizing GitHub Actions for quality, build, and deployment processes to ensure continuous delivery. Infrastructure provisioning was streamlined using Terraform within the CI/CD pipeline. The initial version of the solution was successfully launched in production after seven sprints, adhering to the timelines set by Edstem.

Logistics and Warehousing Solution

In 2018, Edstem collaborated with a partner in the USA to create and manage a tailored logistics and warehousing solution for a client. The project had specific requirements aimed at developing a comprehensive online warehousing system. This included building distinct applications for Warehouse Operators and Space Seekers, as well as a robust administration platform to oversee all operations and users. The project posed significant challenges due to the necessity for a visually appealing interface that ensured high usability, scalability, and security, alongside various warehousing and logistics functionalities. These requirements were particularly crucial given the large and diverse customer base in North America and the need for online goods transport and payments. To facilitate legal compliance and secure transactions, several third-party integrations were used, including HelloSign and Stripe. Additionally, the software's design and scalability faced challenges due to the growing customer base and evolving domain requirements. The initial solution employed an MVC design pattern utilizing Express.js and MongoDB, hosted on DigitalOcean cloud with multiple servers configured in an application cluster managed by a load balancer. Various integrations were implemented to address different needs, such as Stripe, HelloSign, Salesforce, SendGrid, Google Maps, and Google Analytics. The project is currently undergoing an architectural transformation to transition to a cloud-native solution on AWS.

Call Center Training and Scoring Application

Edstem collaborated with Covintus, a partner based in the USA, to create a training and assessment application for one of their major clients. The software was designed for interactive automated training for call center employees, featuring assignments, scoring, and feedback to enhance the program's effectiveness. Assessments were to be conducted using simulators, incorporating voice, text, and data scoring algorithms for evaluation and feedback. User training sessions would also be recorded to improve training outcomes. The program offered training at various levels, increasing in complexity with real-time feedback. During development, the project encountered several challenges, such as refining intelligent scoring, handling desktop recording across multiple systems, and managing a large volume of simulators for different users. Additionally, it included integration with several third-party systems like Salesforce and Snowfly. The solution featured a frontend application developed in React, a backend using the Node.js - Fastify framework and AWS Lambdas, and a Mongo Atlas database. For orchestration, Step Functions and EventBridges were utilized. From an engineering perspective, best practices were followed, including the use of GitHub actions for quality assurance, building, and deployment steps to facilitate continuous delivery. Furthermore, infrastructure provisioning with Terraform within the CI/CD pipeline allowed for easy resource management.
