How an improved UX delivers business gains

UNIQA

The challenge was that while the MedUNIQA app provided valuable services, few UNIQA policyholders were signing up, with many preferring to visit the UNIQA office in person. The UNIQA team aimed to enhance the app in four primary areas: attracting new users, boosting active participation, increasing online doctor consultations, and exploring additional revenue opportunities. To tackle this, we performed a UX/UI audit to identify barriers to app usage and conducted interviews with both UNIQA employees and clients. The audit revealed key insights: the client registration process was overly lengthy, there was insufficient information about the doctors, and the app did not offer options for upselling additional health coverages. The solution involved streamlining the user registration process for a smoother experience, adding ratings and user reviews for doctors to aid decision-making, refining the app’s visual style to be warmer and more inviting, and creating space within the design for promoting related insurance products. The results were impressive: there was a 57% increase in monthly user registrations, a 15% boost in doctor consultation bookings, and over a 200% rise in users scheduling online consultations. Users now benefit from a simplified registration process, an efficient way to book medical appointments, easier navigation, and a more inviting and comforting overall app design.

Redesigning the biggest e-learning platform in BG

Ucha.se

Summary Ucha.se is Bulgaria's largest educational platform, boasting over 1 million users and numerous participating schools nationwide. It features concise video lessons designed for K-12 students, presenting educational content in a clear and accessible manner. After each segment, children can assess their understanding through quizzes and reinforce their knowledge with mind maps. While both students and teachers found these video lessons highly engaging and beneficial, Ucha.se observed that certain students chose not to renew their subscriptions during the summer break. This user dropout rate, known as churn, indicated that, despite having a substantial active user base, the company faced challenges in expanding its user numbers annually. Approach The Ucha.se team aimed to address this concern by developing a mobile app to enhance the overall experience, making it accessible on any device. The app would foster a stronger connection with students by delivering news, new lesson updates, and reminders directly to their phones. Despark's role was to elevate the already excellent video lessons on the platform with a robust user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) for both web and mobile versions. Result: The outcome was a 100% increase in video lesson viewing rates! With the redesign and enhanced UX/UI, Ucha.se learners now enjoy a more streamlined experience and easier access to essential features. The refreshed design appeals to users of all ages, from young children to teenagers and teachers. In the year following the redesign, daily website visits rose from over 20,000 to 30,000, while the average number of daily watched video lessons doubled from over 30,000 to more than 60,000, reflecting a 100% increase in viewership!

Building an accessible learning platform

The Help Me Thrive initiative seeks to ensure that all children, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, can access education and realize their full potential within an inclusive and supportive society. Our task was to create and implement a platform that would serve as a central resource, empowering learners, educators, parents, and specialists to collaborate and support young people's growth. This platform would feature video content specifically designed for children with disabilities and special needs, facilitating better cooperation among families and professionals. During the COVID-19 pandemic, it became increasingly vital that vulnerable children were not left out of remote learning opportunities. We conducted interviews with over 20 specialists who work with these families to gain insight into the existing program's functionality and its adaptation to the new platform. Subsequently, we developed design prototypes through wireframes, which we tested with groups of parents and specialists, including individuals with diverse accessibility requirements. We designed user interfaces based on their feedback to ensure they were accessible for those with visual impairments, incorporating features like high contrast and brightly colored buttons to meet the rigorous accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA). Launched in September 2021, the 'Help Me Thrive' platform provides children, their parents, and their supporting specialists with comprehensive access to a collaborative environment. At the conclusion of the project, we also facilitated training sessions that included specific guidelines for administrators, specialists, teachers, and families, to help them maximize the platform’s potential.
