The Smashing Pumpkins | In Ashes

In creating In Ashes, Deep Sky was privileged to work closely with The Smashing Pumpkins to produce a five-part animated series that complements songs from their latest album, CYR. Our dedicated artists enjoyed the challenge of bringing frontman Billy Corgan's unique and layered vision to life through striking hand-drawn animation infused with a goth-futuristic flair. Collaborating with Billy was a dream for our creative team; he provided a clear direction for the characters and storyline, enabling us to expand on his concepts and develop a rich universe for the series. This foundation supported the intricate narrative crafted by Corgan. To express the deep emotions present in these five interconnected tracks, we employed a vibrant color palette inspired by a range of influences, including Bladerunner, Dune, H.R. Giger, and cyberpunk aesthetics. As the storyline shifts from personal turmoil to external survival, both the animation and color work reflect the characters' challenges and evolving feelings. Ultimately, In Ashes transforms the gothic rock sound of The Smashing Pumpkins into an operatic spectacle of shifting identities and cosmic longing, complete with exciting chase sequences. Superplastic | Janky, Guggimon, and Dayzee

Superplastic

We collaborate with our associates at Superplastic to produce social media content featuring their in-house influencers Janky, Guggimon, and Dayzee. Our production team handles character animation, environment design, lighting and materials, as well as compositing and rendering for their 3D animated content. The shorts are published on Superplastic's Instagram and TikTok, where they are seen by millions of viewers.

System of a Down | "Genocidal Humanoidz"

Columbia Records

Deep Sky is excited to collaborate with the GRAMMY Award-winning alt-rock band System of a Down to produce the animated segments for their official music video for the new single, "Genocidal Humanoidz." This video aims to highlight the resilience of Armenians in the face of brutal oppression, following an Armenian child who is chased by demons through the devastated streets of his city. Eventually, with the support of his community, he succeeds in fending off the demons. Our team closely partnered with System of a Down to convey a narrative that holds deep significance for the band, reflected in the intricate visuals throughout the video. To enhance the metaphorical impact, we chose to use color for specific elements, such as the purple flower and the demons' red eyes, against a backdrop of monochrome characters and settings. We also incorporated dynamic camera angles to immerse the audience in critical moments, including the unsettling appearance of the demons and the inspiring scene where the child unites with his community for a final confrontation. By integrating 2D animation, 3D animation, and motion capture, we intensified the video's emotional impact to evoke a strong reaction from viewers. The video was released in January 2021, accompanied by a livestream fundraiser to support rehabilitation for Armenian soldiers with traumatic injuries.
