Handling e-commerce data in an automated way

merXu

The client, merXu, is a leading online trading platform for B2B companies throughout the European Union, providing a secure and trustworthy environment that connects verified buyers and sellers. This platform serves businesses of all sizes and ensures a smooth trading experience through its user-friendly interface and various features. In the role of a partner in the project, Datumo's experts developed generic data processing pipelines using appropriate GCP services. Our team implemented Apache Airflow on GKE with several DAG templates, while also sharing cloud and data engineering best practices with the client's developers. The challenge faced was that rapid growth brought impressive business results but also led to an expanding volume of data. This growth resulted in frequent modifications to merXu's platform, the creation of numerous ad-hoc solutions, and a deficiency in automation, standardization, and monitoring. Therefore, Datumo needed to stabilize operations and replace certain tools with suitable GCP services, provide best practice guidance, and create solutions to effectively manage future requirements. The solution centered around Apache Airflow, deployed on GKE as per client needs. Datumo experts leveraged Airflow, BigQuery, GCS, and other GCP services to build flexible solutions that could easily accommodate the addition of new data pipelines to meet complex business demands. Data backups and monitoring alerts were implemented to ensure the platform could handle challenging scenarios effectively. As a result of Datumo’s enhancements, managing key data pipelines became both reliable and straightforward. For the most frequent tasks, providing just a few configuration values was enough to establish a robust, multi-service solution. With monitored orchestration, all processes were executed correctly, and in the event of an issue, the support team received clear and transparent information to swiftly identify the cause.

Fueling business with data democratisation by GCP

iTaxi

iTaxi is the leading B2B taxi service provider in Poland, operating in all major Polish cities. A key feature of their service is an app that displays the fare when booking a taxi. In the Datumo project, we created a comprehensive data platform that promotes data democratization. Datumo integrated iTaxi’s data sources into the cloud, developed a modern data warehouse, aided in data processing, and supported the creation of dashboards. iTaxi's challenge was to consolidate its data sources into a centralized data warehouse to facilitate data-driven decision-making and automate reporting. This involved integrating both real-time and offline data from their existing systems and on-premise infrastructure into a single platform on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). We utilized Apache NiFi as the data ingestion layer to pull together data from various systems, while Apache Kafka handled real-time data processing. BigQuery served as the data lake layer, and Cloud Composer orchestrated Spark on Dataproc to enhance the data and implement business logic. Apache Druid acted as the OLAP layer, with visualizations and dashboards created in Apache SuperSet, pulling from Druid. As a result, iTaxi’s real-time and historical data were merged into a unified analytical system, featuring dashboards that display cleaned and transformed data to foster data democratization. Additionally, we implemented an alerting and monitoring system to assist in anomaly detection. The project was executed smoothly, thanks to the client's clear vision and requirements.

About the Client: The Client is one of Europe's leading e-commerce platforms, providing a diverse range of products to customers worldwide. Their website garners over 20 million visits each month. Challenge: The Client must maintain smooth usability of their platform for users throughout the year. For example, traffic spikes during major events like Black Friday and Christmas, which requires not only advance resource planning but also managing the underutilization of many infrastructure resources during other times. To tackle this issue, one of Europe's largest e-commerce platforms chose to partner with us to migrate their Big Data and AI platform to Google Cloud Platform. The Datumo team of experts plays a key role in supporting the Client through this transition. The decision to migrate is based on the advantages of Cloud Providers’ pay-as-you-go pricing, allowing organizations to pay only for the resources they use. Additionally, cloud solutions offer exceptional scalability. The Value We Delivered: - Accelerated Cloud Adoption: Our efforts enabled a rapid migration of the Big Data platform to the Cloud. - Resource Efficiency: Leveraging the Cloud allows the Client to avoid purchasing new hardware for each project, freeing resources for strategic business initiatives. - FinOps Improvement: We enhanced cost management through effective FinOps practices. - Performance Optimization: Datumo's contributions led to improved platform performance. - Enhanced Data Quality: We implemented precise validation techniques to enhance data quality and reliability. - Dynamic Scalability: The new Cloud-based platform offers flexible scalability. - Knowledge Transfer and Collaboration: We held several knowledge transfer sessions with the Client.
