FourJaw has a distinct goal of leveraging big data to enhance the efficiency of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machining to match that of mass manufacturing. They provide accessible and cost-effective data-driven manufacturing analytics that yield significant benefits for manufacturers' financial performance and operational processes. By offering specialized solutions, FourJaw has created a unique Manufacturing Execution System designed to boost shop floor productivity by tapping into CNC data and insights. However, they faced a challenge: despite having the relevant information to assist clients in optimizing performance, they lacked a platform to present this data in a user-friendly and accessible format. To address this need, they sought the expertise of The Curve. Our team took a proactive approach to understand what data was most valuable to FourJaw’s clients in order to create a platform that effectively highlighted these insights. It was determined that the platform needed to showcase specific information. Consequently, The Curve began developing and refining an application that displayed real-time data from the Manufacturing Execution System on a live dashboard accessible via mobile or desktop devices. This intuitive application allowed manufacturing professionals to quickly access information, facilitating meaningful enhancements to their operations.

Implementing a Cloud based Back-up solution

ASK4 operates a carrier-neutral data center focused on the Internet sector, located in Sheffield. This facility has strong connectivity to major network hubs in London, Manchester, and Leeds. Previously, ASK4 relied on backup Virtual Machines to run many of its essential services. However, the company aimed to transition to a cloud-based solution with multiple points of redundancy to enhance the reliability and security of its backup system while ensuring its operations could evolve across various locations. Although ASK4 had clear objectives, their in-house resources were limited for the comprehensive planning, testing, and implementation of a new system. Consequently, they engaged The Curve for assistance. The Curve collaborated closely with ASK4 to understand their current operations and future goals for the cloud-based system. After initial discussions and an assessment of the existing systems, The Curve created a proof of concept that showcased the viability of a new AWS cloud-based solution. During the implementation phase, The Curve conducted regular testing and took full responsibility for ensuring proper data storage. Within four months, the new system was developed and launched, offering more secure and reliable backup options. The cloud-based system can now be accessed from various locations, not just the main site in Sheffield, reducing the risk of backup failures from potential incidents such as fires, flooding, hardware issues, or power outages, while also minimizing the need for physical maintenance.

Data Monitoring Platform for an Air Quality Sensor

The Urban Flows Observatory aims to effectively measure, comprehend, and utilize the physical (energy and material resources) metabolism of cities. It has achieved this by employing a network of stationary and mobile IoT sensors to monitor a wide array of physical attributes across the urban landscape. Data is collected from various types of sensors, including both fixed and mobile units, as well as standard and advanced sensor technologies. The Curve was tasked with creating a web portal to provide an easy way to view, compare, and analyze this data. They developed a responsive portal capable of processing data from all sensors and presenting the findings through different visualizations and graphs. Users can explore sensor data, including nearby and relevant sensors, and make comparisons between different sensor outputs. The portal's functionality was enhanced with a set of Integration APIs, and The Curve's engineers worked with Slanted Theory to create 3D virtual reality representations of the sensor data from the integration feed. To evaluate the data quality from the sensors in the Observatory’s network, The Curve team developed a machine learning-based anomaly detection system using AWS SageMaker to identify and filter out anomalies in individual sensor readings. This system has become crucial for interpreting the data from the Urban Flows Observatory, processing over 90,000 sensor readings daily from more than 790 IoT sensors hosted on the AWS cloud.
