Knapsack

Cheesecake Labs collaborated with Knapsack to design and develop an AI-driven productivity platform that allows enterprise teams to automate intricate workflows while ensuring data privacy and compliance with regulations. Initially, Knapsack served as a private AI notetaking solution for financial advisors, providing meeting transcription and workflow automation in regulated settings (SOC 2, HIPAA, GDPR). As demand for the product increased, the founders needed to transition from a fully local AI model to a scalable hybrid architecture without sacrificing their privacy-first approach. To facilitate this, Cheesecake Labs assigned senior engineers to the Knapsack team to oversee the redesign. We revamped the core infrastructure for improved speed, reliability, and expanded features, transforming Knapsack from a notetaking tool into a comprehensive AI workflow platform composed of three key product lines: Knaps (modular workflow automations), Knapsack Chat (an AI SDK for SaaS integration), and Knapsack Studio (a builder for custom AI workflows). Significant technical achievements included creating a privacy-centric AI architecture that handles sensitive data without exposing it to external LLMs, integrating with enterprise systems like Salesforce, HubSpot, GSuite, Outlook, OneDrive, and financial platforms such as Wealthbox and eMoney, and developing modular AI workflows capable of automatically generating emails, newsletters, PDFs, CRM updates, and meeting notes. The platform now supports teams in financial services, healthcare, and professional services, enabling them to interact with their data, automate internal tasks, and deploy custom AI agents without the need for coding. Knapsack processes data locally or in secure cloud environments, offering enterprises productivity enhancements while ensuring compliance. Technologies utilized include Python, TypeScript, React, Node.js, LLM integration, vector databases, AWS, as well as SOC 2, HIPAA, and GDPR compliance.

Legacy-to-Modern Platform for Vet Pharmacy Leader

Wedgewood

Cheesecake Labs collaborated with Wedgewood, one of the oldest and largest providers of compounded animal medications in the U.S., serving over 70,000 veterinarians and millions of pets each year, to transform their outdated digital platform into a scalable and high-performance web experience. The issue arose from years of growth and acquisitions, including Blue Rabbit, an online veterinary pharmacy, which resulted in a website reliant on a disjointed set of technologies. The legacy system incurred high maintenance costs and had operational inflexibility, requiring developers for even minor content updates, along with limited scalability that could not accommodate newly acquired businesses. Cheesecake Labs implemented a complete application modernization strategy, migrating the content infrastructure to Contentstack, a modern headless CMS. This move empowered non-technical staff to modify and publish pages independently, eliminating the need for engineering support. Additionally, they created over 30 modular content components for dynamic page generation, allowing the team to independently launch new pages, campaigns, and products. The frontend was developed using React and Next.js for server-side rendering, resulting in faster page load times and enhanced SEO. Legacy systems, including Klevu (for search) and Salesforce (for inventory and CRM), were integrated to maintain business functionality while updating the presentation layer. Furthermore, hosting was moved to Contentstack Launch for automatic scaling, improved uptime, and reduced maintenance efforts. As a result, the revamped platform achieved a 23% increase in lead generation. The number of veterinarians and pet owners utilizing the site for prescription management has doubled. Wedgewood's marketing team noted that the improved content management processes greatly facilitated their lead generation initiatives.
