Sainsbury's Taste The Difference

We launched the original Taste the Difference brand for Sainsbury’s in 1999 and have since been its brand guardians, overseeing two significant redesigns over the past two decades. Now an essential part of their core brand, Taste the Difference spans 9 categories and features over 1,800 products. In 2019, we revamped the range again to align with the new brand proposition focused on 'Heroing the difference.' This redesign was aimed at highlighting what makes the products special and delicious. We concentrated on the four P’s: Product ingredients, People, Process, and Provenance, to effectively communicate this message. The new design incorporates a handwritten logo that highlights the word "Taste," adding character and warmth while emphasizing quality and origin. The food photography is now linked to flavor, showcasing the high-quality ingredients and flavor elements, with a dark slate background denoting a premium, artisan feel for the entire Taste the Difference line. The refreshed branding retains the signature deep purple and gold color scheme to ensure immediate recognition and consistency.

Redesigning An Energy Icon

For over 90 years, Lucozade Energy has been the UK's most popular energy brand, and it tasked us with creating a cohesive design across its five flavor variants. We implemented a distinct system that reinforces the iconic vertical logo, ensuring it can accommodate future product expansions and special editions. The design features a detailed shard pattern that radiates colorful energy from the Lucozade arrow, creating a vibrant and unified look for the range. This not only enhances shelf visibility but also highlights the taste and energy attributes that consumers appreciate. Bridget Hirst, the Brand Manager for Lucozade Energy, noted, “Our research shows that consumers really appreciate our updated Lucozade Energy packaging, viewing it as much more contemporary, and we believe this striking new design will attract even more interest in the already growing range, which is up 32.7% year over year.”

To thrive in today's crowded frozen food market, Birds Eye had to rethink how their premium offerings fit into their well-established brand. The updated design enhances the taste appeal by placing a greater emphasis on fresh ingredients, while reintroducing the iconic Captain Birds Eye as a key brand figure enhances visibility and recognition in the frozen aisle. The new design principles allocate half of the packaging space to product messaging, making it easier for consumers to navigate flavors and allowing for future expansions of the product line. “The captain is our most recognizable asset - he’s the top food icon in the UK. We believe that by promoting our premium range, we will draw in new consumers for both our brand and the frozen fish category. New shoppers showed increased interest, and existing shoppers indicated that the product's visibility and presence had improved significantly,” stated Rebecca Nascimento, UK General Marketing Manager for Birds Eye Fish.
