Berman Design

Berman Design is an architecture and design firm based in Chicago that focuses on adaptive reuse and heritage restoration in the realms of restaurants, hospitality, institutions, and residential projects. Their portfolio includes the award-winning preservation and renovation of a White Castle Hamburger building from the 1920s, as well as the transformation of a 1906 Chicago fire station into a prominent video production and editing facility. In addition, Berman Design develops brand identities for businesses, creating franchise system prototype standards, branded environments, logos, websites, brand guidelines, and interior designs. Joel Berman, a registered architect and member of the Association of Licensed Architects (ALA), holds certification as an Accredited Professional in Building Construction and Design through the United States Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED-AP). He is also recognized by the City of Chicago as a Self-Certified Architect. Joel advocates for the importance of quick and clear sketching during the design process and has taught architectural sketching at institutions such as Columbia College Chicago, The Chicago Architecture Foundation, and The Ontario Association of Architects.
