The Kelvin Project was an initiative in Switzerland designed to help companies understand their employees' electricity usage patterns. It utilized smart meters installed at each workstation to measure power consumption, which was then transmitted wirelessly to a central processing unit. Despite the hardware functioning effectively, the project struggled to persuade companies of the installation's value and the usefulness of the data collected. Consequently, BeHappy was tasked with developing a service that could enhance the appeal of the technology within this B2B framework. BeHappy created a service that linked the physical environment to a digital platform, empowering employees to recognize and improve their electricity usage habits. By leveraging real-time data from the smart meters about the energy consumed by employees' devices, they turned energy consumption into a core component of a business game that rewarded employees for reducing costs. This game was quickly embraced by companies such as Google, Roche, IWB AXPO, and Cofely, achieving savings of over 50% in electricity costs per employee. View project.
