The Packard Foundation: Visual Identity

The David and Lucile Packard Foundation

Since 1964, the David and Lucile Packard Foundation has been actively supporting philanthropic initiatives aimed at creating a fair and equitable world where both individuals and nature can thrive. Barretto was chosen to collaborate with important stakeholders and decision-makers in redesigning the logo, creating a new brand identity, developing a design system prototype, and establishing identity guidelines. A visit to their headquarters and the family home, which now serves as a meeting space for grantees, showcased a thoughtfully curated design aesthetic with intentional choices. Drawing inspiration from both locations, we conceptualized a “weave” to symbolize interconnected ideas and efforts. Our objective was to genuinely reflect the foundation's essence with a revitalized public image. The following core themes informed our design approach and choices: people/nature; harmony; joy/optimism; West Coast ethos; permanence; bridging the current state with new ideas; exceptional design that is artistic; the beauty of nature; and of course, clarity.

LatinoProsperity: Visual Identity

Barretto-Co. collaborated with the founders and team of Latino Prosperity to create an extensive visual identity system that embodied their mission, enthusiasm, and hope. Our objective was to craft a strong, assured identity that would resonate with funders, policymakers, community leaders, and Latino communities, while demonstrating an unwavering dedication to fostering generational wealth and opportunities. We began with thorough stakeholder engagement and competitive analysis to establish a consensus on key messaging, mission clarity, and audience needs. The visual identity system was intended to reflect movement, action, and interconnectedness. We utilized dynamic shapes and bold typography to illustrate progress and unity, incorporating a color palette that purposefully alluded to the finance sector, an area from which Latinos have historically been marginalized. This was complemented by messaging focused on empowerment, collective advancement, and policy transformation. We produced identity guidelines, digital and print materials, and a website design framework that would empower Latino Prosperity to confidently amplify its presence across social media, presentations, and advocacy efforts.
