First public-private partnership program of its kind

Objective: To establish and execute a pioneering public-private partnership initiative with KPBS aimed at nonprofit public agencies, featuring three "First 5 for Kids" programs that provide essential services such as developmental screenings, dental care, high-quality preschool education, and parenting workshops for San Diego's youngest residents. The programs included Q-Kids ($2.5 million), Immunization Outreach ($1.0 million), and Oral Health and Wellness ($780,000). Campaign Approach: Ark Marketing's initial efforts involved forming an advisory board consisting of community leaders experienced in children's health and education. This board was tasked with discussing local needs and priorities and collaborating with various community organizations to share information about the programs and services available. Ark Marketing facilitated partnerships to develop the marketing materials and messaging for the different initiatives, including translating print materials into seven languages. They collaborated with Eagle Marketing on the direct mail strategy and execution and worked with Spanish-language radio station KLNV/KLOQ to create and schedule radio advertisements, assisted in producing a 15-minute program called De Viva Vow, and managed outreach at key station events. Additionally, Ark Marketing teamed up with local television station KGTV to create and manage advertising schedules, contributed to news segments' content with the advisory board and First Five Commission's public relations firm, produced on-air educational announcements, and developed custom 10Mobile interstitials. They also coordinated outreach at significant KGTV events and aided Children’s Hospital in creating a tailored immunization module for outreach presentations, while assisting KPBS in producing community calendars for PBS and commercial stations' outreach efforts at events and clinics across San Diego County. Results: Research conducted on the project revealed the following outcomes: - Almost 67% of respondents reported increased awareness of local health and safety resources. - 12,000 developmental guides and other resource materials were distributed. - Over 56,000 individuals attended the 21 events in San Diego that involved Q-Kids, with 48.3% of viewers surveyed by an external evaluator indicating they took or intended to take action as a result of seeing the educational messages on television. Additionally, the campaign generated 1,268,954 impressions on the websites of KPBS and KGTV.

Gailey Research conducted interviews at the Kaiser Permanente Get Fit San Diego 5k Run/Walk and Fit Festival. Participants viewed two videos—one on portion control and the other on healthy eating aimed at kids. Both videos received high ratings for their effectiveness and the importance of their messages, raising awareness about healthy eating and portion control, and motivating parents to improve their families' dietary choices. The Healthy Start Kit was also well-received, with high ratings for its value. Nearly two-thirds (65.0%) of participants reported that the program positively influenced their perception of Kaiser Permanente, while more than 75% felt significantly more favorable towards the organization due to their involvement in the For Healthy Kids initiative. Almost all respondents (93.6%) believed it was very important for healthcare organizations to engage in similar programs.
