Gary Cokins is a globally recognized authority, speaker, and writer in the areas of advanced cost management and performance enhancement systems. He established Analytics-Based Performance Management, a consulting firm based in Cary, North Carolina. Gary graduated with honors, earning a BS in Industrial Engineering/Operations Research from Cornell University in 1971 and later completed his MBA at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management in 1974. He started his professional journey as a strategic planner with FMC’s Link-Belt Division, eventually becoming Financial Controller and Operations Manager. In 1981, he began his career in management consulting with Deloitte Consulting. He later joined KPMG in 1988, where he received training in Activity-Based Costing (ABC) from Harvard Business School Professors Robert S. Kaplan and Robin Cooper. By 1992, he was leading the National Cost Management Consulting Services for Electronic Data Systems (EDS), which is now integrated with HP. Until recently, Gary focused on business development at SAS, a premier provider of enterprise performance management and business analytics software.

Gary Cokins, a distinguished expert in performance improvement and advanced cost management, holds a BS in Industrial Engineering from Cornell and an MBA from Northwestern's Kellogg School. His career began at FMC Corporation, evolving through roles at Deloitte and KPMG, where he trained under Harvard luminaries on activity-based costing and contributed to early Balanced Scorecard research. Leading cost management consulting at EDS before joining SAS, Gary authored seminal books on cost management and performance. His influence spans multiple professional bodies and advisory roles, including with Harvard Business School for the IMF. Beyond his career, he values giving back, reflecting on privilege and responsibility. Residing in Cary, NC, Gary's legacy includes the oldest computer baseball game code honored by the Baseball Hall of Fame.
