AltexSoft & Bruxlab: Employing State-of-the-Art Machine Learning and Data Science to Diagnose and Fight Bruxism

Bruxlab, now known as Sleep.ai, is a Dutch healthcare startup founded by dentist Michiel Allessie, who has been researching teeth grinding, also known as bruxism, and its health effects. AltexSoft developed an iOS app that operates in the background at night, recording the sounds users make while they sleep. Using a sophisticated algorithm, the system isolates grinding noises and compiles a score, which is then sent to a dentist for further assessment. By utilizing data analytics and machine learning techniques, the AltexSoft team created an algorithm that can differentiate teeth grinding from other sounds. Our data scientists built a neural network and analyzed 6,000 audio samples to address the noise classification challenge, successfully extracting attributes specific to grinding sounds. The algorithm has achieved an accuracy rate of up to 80% in recognizing these sounds, and this accuracy continues to improve as more samples are processed.
