An Intelligent Fitness App
Steve, a personal trainer and former Royal Marine commando, came up with the idea in the early 2000s to create a website that would automatically develop personalized training plans. In 2016, after being dissatisfied with another agency, he contacted 1994. The initial task was to create a proof of concept website to show that automatically generating workout plans was feasible. After this first phase, the next step was to develop a complete website for Shredify to allow their first customers to sign up and provide valuable feedback. The final phase involved transforming the website into a comprehensive mobile app for both IOS and Android.
During the process, 1994 refined the proof of concept, enabling the Shredify team to generate test workout plans by simulating various user profiles. These plans utilized data from an initial questionnaire and incorporated users' weekly progress. Once the proof of concept was successful, important insights about branding and usability were applied to the full website launch in phase 2. It was also decided to focus on the mobile application in phase 3, leading to the reconstruction of core systems to ensure they could be reused efficiently across both the website and mobile platforms, allowing for easier future edits and expansions.
For the mobile application, we aimed for ease of maintenance on both IOS and Android. To achieve this, we employed the Phonegap platform, which let us maintain the mobile apps from a single codebase, streamlining feature implementation across platforms. Our efforts then shifted to optimizing Shredify's functionality to excel in a mobile app environment, enhancing the layouts and interactions to make them as user-friendly as possible. As a result, the app received coverage in HERS, Muscle & Fitness, and FLEX Magazine.
