**Overview** The State Revenue Office (SRO) serves as the primary revenue collection agency for the Victorian Government. In the fiscal year 2015/16, it was responsible for collecting $15.7 billion and aimed to enhance the ease with which customers could engage with them, particularly through online services. To assist in achieving this goal, we collaborated to develop a user-friendly, accessible, and efficient website. The SRO website acts as the portal for online transactions, forms, rulings, and publications. However, the existing site fell short of its intended purpose: it was unattractive, difficult to navigate, and did not allow customers to self-serve. Consequently, this led to low online task completion rates, countering the SRO's aim for improved customer service. Additionally, this situation resulted in an increase in phone and in-person inquiries, subsequently raising operational costs. Given that a single phone call can cost up to $16 more than an online transaction, a primary objective was to reduce the annual 260,000 phone calls the SRO receives by facilitating better online self-service options for customers. **Solution** To begin, we performed a peer review of the Federal tax website (ATO.gov.au) and three State Government sites. Following this, we conducted a series of individual interviews and workshops with key stakeholders and users. Based on the insights gathered, we tested and implemented several changes, along with a new Drupal Content Management System to effectively manage over 1,000 web pages and more than 15 different content types. Australian Academy of Science - Nova

Overview: In 1997, the Australian Academy of Science launched the successful Nova: science in the news website to offer clear and accessible scientific information on current topics for students, educators, and the general public. Webplace evaluated Nova's audience, objectives, and content delivery methods, updating the website's design for a modern appeal. One of the Academy’s key aspirations is to foster a more scientifically informed public. Our task was to support this objective by developing a site that delivers timely, relevant, and accurate scientific information in an engaging and interactive manner, making Nova the preferred science reference site for students, teachers, the media, government, and the public, thereby expanding its audience over time. Solution: We conducted multiple focus groups and interviews with stakeholders, including some of Australia's esteemed academic fellows, representative users, and the project team. Based on this, we developed user personas, created stories, designed wireframes, and established an Information Architecture, which we validated with users. The next phase involved crafting an innovative, multi-layered user interface and a content framework tailored to users of various ages and backgrounds. Finally, we implemented the Drupal content management system to manage diverse functionalities and content types for the launch, including highlighted quotes, insights, a glossary, additional reading materials, activities, and infographics. Overview: Coliban Water delivers water and wastewater services to 49 towns over a 16,500 square kilometer area in North-Central Victoria, covering both rural and urban regions from Cohuna and Echuca in the north to Kyneton and Trentham in the south. Their previous website was created and maintained using static HTML, making content updates laborious and new content additions challenging. Additionally, the website's design was outdated, the user experience was lacking, and the inconsistent tone and voice of the content led to confusion for users. Solution: To tackle these issues, extensive engagement with users and stakeholders was conducted to identify the primary tasks performed by various user groups visiting the site. The design team at Webplace created wireframes and design mockups that were tested with both the business and users to ensure that key tasks could be easily recognized and accomplished. Our business analyst collaborated closely with the client to accurately document the necessary fields and data types for the various content types utilized on the site. The next step involved our Drupal development team bringing these elements to fruition by developing content types, creating a custom Drupal theme, and implementing functionality. We integrated Swiftype, an enterprise search tool, to enhance search capabilities beyond the standard features offered by Drupal. Swiftype also provided additional appealing functionalities, including search statistics (like autocomplete searches), the option for administrators to reorder search results for specific terms, and the ability to search within PDF documents to yield pertinent results.
